Abstract

Libraries are public facilities that play a role in supporting literacy, learning, and the development of community knowledge. As user needs evolve, libraries serve not only as places for storing collections, but also as spaces for learning, social interaction, and community development. Sidoarjo Regency has a large population and a high level of reading enthusiasm, thus requiring library facilities capable of optimally accommodating the community’s needs. This design aims to create a library oriented toward user needs, characteristics, and experiences. The method used in this design is Human-Centered Design (HCD), which includes the stages of Inspiration, Ideation, and Implementation. This approach was applied through the identification of user needs, activity analysis, and the development of spatial concepts that support comfort, accessibility, flexibility, and ease of use. The design outcome is a library capable of accommodating various literacy, learning, discussion, and community activities in a comfortable and easily accessible environment. The design features various spaces such as individual reading areas, group reading areas, discussion rooms, a children’s area, a community area, and other supporting facilities arranged according to user needs. Through the application of Human-Centered Design, the library is expected to become a center for literacy and an educational public space that supports the improvement of human resources in Sidoarjo Regency.
