Abstract

Bioguma 3 Agritan sorghum holds great potential as an alternative for national food diversification. However, seed deterioration during storage affects the availability of high-quality seeds. This study aimed to determine the best priming agent and soaking duration to improve seed viability and vigor. The research utilized a two-factor completely randomized design (CRD). The first factor was the priming agent (10% mung bean sprout extract, 10% Spirulina platensis extract, and a 5% combination of both). The second factor was the soaking duration (6, 12, 18, and 24 hours). The results showed that soaking with sprout extract for 6 hours increased germination percentage and maximum growth potential, while a 12-hour soaking duration maximized the germination speed index and radicle emergence. The combination extract treatment for 12 hours yielded better results in sprout, shoot, and root fresh weight. As a single factor, the combination extract was able to enhance the root system, while a 12-hour soaking duration proved to be the optimal time to stimulate growth.
