Abstract
Calculations for the 024-E-105 heat exchanger in the MEK Dewaxing Lube Oil Complex II unit yielded a fouling factor (Rd) of 0.0003 hr.m².C/kCal before plugging the leaking tube and 0.0044 hr.m².C/kCal after plugging the leaking tube. This indicates that the heat exchanger contains significant impurities in both the tube and shell. Furthermore, after capping several leaking tubes, the 024-E-105 heat exchanger remained suitable for use, as the estimated temperature drop analysis was within the safe limit of 27.8°C. However, cleaning was necessary to maintain heat exchanger performance.
