Abstract
Problems in melon (Cucumis melo L.) cultivation include low yield and suboptimal fruit quality caused by the use of unsuitable varieties and limited nutrient availability. This study aimed to determine the effect of melon varieties and potassium nitrate (KNO₃) fertilizer doses on the growth and fruit quality of melon. The study was conducted using a factorial Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with two factors, namely melon varieties (Merlin, Madesta, and Alisha) and KNO₃ fertilizer doses (0, 2, 4, and 6 g/plant). The results showed a significant interaction between varieties and KNO₃ doses on the number of female flowers, with the best combination obtained from the Merlin variety treated with 4 g/plant of KNO₃. Independently, the application of 6 g/plant KNO₃ produced the highest number of leaves, fruit volume, and sweetness level, while the dose of 4 g/plant resulted in the best performance in flowering time, fruit weight, fruit diameter, and flesh thickness. The Merlin variety showed the best plant length growth and earliest flowering time, the Madesta variety produced the highest flesh thickness, while the Alisha variety resulted in the highest number of leaves and sweetness level. Therefore, the use of appropriate varieties combined with the optimal dose of KNO₃ fertilizer can improve the growth, yield, and quality of melon fruit. Keywords: Cucumis melo; hybrid varieties; KNO₃; fruit quality.
