Abstract

Soil erosion is a process of land degradation influenced by rainfall, soil properties, topography, and land use and management. Ngantang Sub-district, Malang Regency, is highly vulnerable to erosion due to high rainfall, varying slope gradients, and changes in land use without adequate conservation measures. This study aims to estimate erosion rates and erosion hazard levels across various land uses using the Universal Soil Loss Equation (USLE) method. The research was conducted from October 2025 to March 2026 using purposive sampling based on land use type and slope class. The parameters analyzed included the factors R, K, LS, C, and P. The results showed that dryland and scrubland on steep slopes exhibited the highest erosion rates of up to 371.43 tonnes/ha/year (severe category), while forested land had the lowest erosion rates (0.29–0.96 tonnes/ha/year). The LS and C factors are the primary determinants of erosion rates. Recommended conservation measures include terrace rehabilitation, land conversion to agroforestry, and the implementation of grass strips to sustainably reduce erosion rates
