Abstract
This study aims to analyze the role of Girls Not Brides (GNB) within the transnational advocacy network in promoting the elimination of child marriage in Bangladesh during the period of 2021–2025. Child marriage constitutes a persistent violation of human rights, deeply shaped by gender inequality and entrenched social norms. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach, utilizing secondary data collection techniques through a literature review encompassing reports from international organizations, government policy documents, and official GNB publications. The analytical framework applied is the Transnational Advocacy Network (TAN), which encompasses information politics, symbolic politics, leverage politics, and accountability politics. The findings demonstrate that GNB, including GNB Bangladesh as an integral component of the network, functions as a non-governmental actor that contributes to elevating the issue of child marriage from the domestic sphere to the international arena. GNB facilitates the interconnection between local actors and international stakeholders, including international organizations and global donors, thereby generating external pressure on the Bangladeshi government and giving rise to the Boomerang Pattern. The findings further indicate that the effectiveness of advocacy for the elimination of child marriage in Bangladesh is not contingent upon a single actor, but rather upon the interactions within the transnational advocacy network, which enable local issues to garner global attention and drive policy change at the national level. Accordingly, the engagement of GNB Global in conjunction with GNB Bangladesh serves as a critical component of the network mechanism that bridges local and global dynamics in the pursuit of child marriage elimination in Bangladesh.
