Abstract

This research aims to improve the production efficiency of 25-liter paint tubes at PT Mitramulia Makmur by overcoming capacity constraints using the Theory of Constraints (TOC) approach. The results of the initial identification showed that there was a bottleneck in the process of heating the tube (PK-2), printing (PK-3), and finishing (PK-7) which was characterized by efficiency of 82%, utility of 85.7%, and defect rate that exceeded the tolerance limit of 4%. Root cause analysis using fishbone diagrams indicates that the constraints are triggered by machine, human, method, and work environment factors. Improvements are made through the implementation of the TOC strategy in the form of standardizing SOPs, increasing quality inspections, and increasing production working time to 6.5 hours per day. The results of the improvement showed an increase in efficiency to 96% and utility to 92.9%, accompanied by a change in all capacity variances to positive. Wilcoxon's tests using Minitab software resulted in a P-Value of 0.000 (< 0.05), confirming a significant difference before and after repairs. Thus, the TOC strategy has proven to be effective in increasing the capabilities of the production system and reducing the defect rate to within the set tolerance limit.
