Abstract

This research will be carried out on making NaOH because the need for NaOH continues to increase from year to year and NaOH is a chemical with an important role in the production process in various industries in Indonesia. Salt is a group of chemical compounds used in everyday life, with Sodium Chloride or NaCl as the main component along with impurities such as CaSO4, MgSO4, MgCl2, and so on. In everyday life, salt is considered quite important because it is widely used as a main or supporting component in various chemical industries. The production of gases such as chlorine (Cl2), hydrochloric acid (HCI), sodium hydroxide (NaOH), sodium sulfate (NazSO4), sodium carbonate (NazCO3), and sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3) is one example. Salt also functions to meet needs in the food industry, cleaning, leather tanning and oil drilling sectors. The NaCl content in folk salt is 88.8%, apart from NaCl, folk salt contains several other compounds such as 8.20% H2O; 1.65% MgSO4 ; 1.47% MgCl2 ; and 0.30% CaSO4.
