Abstract

The development of Internet of Things (IoT) technology has encouraged the implementation of automated systems in the livestock sector, including the incubation process of reptile eggs. The Leopard Gecko (Eublepharis macularius) is a reptile species whose egg incubation process is highly influenced by temperature, where differences in incubation temperature can determine the sex of the offspring produced. However, environmental temperature fluctuations often become a challenge for breeders, especially small-scale or home breeders, which can reduce the hatching success rate. This study aims to design and develop an IoT-based Leopard Gecko egg incubator system using the Proportional–Integral–Derivative (PID) control method to maintain temperature stability automatically. The system utilizes a DHT22 sensor for temperature monitoring, a Peltier module as an actuator, and a microcontroller as the main controller. The expected outcome of this research is the development of an incubator system capable of maintaining temperature according to the set point to optimally produce male or female offspring, as well as facilitating breeders in monitoring incubator conditions in real time and remotely.
