Abstract
Online media coverage plays an important role in shaping public understanding of public policy, including the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program. This program has attracted widespread attention after a number of cases of food poisoning affecting students in various regions. This situation has opened up space for the media to frame the implementation of the MBG policy from a certain perspective. This study aims to analyze how the online media outlets CNNIndonesia and Kompas framed the food poisoning cases in the Free Nutritious Meals program. This study uses Robert N. Entman's framing theory and social reconstruction theory to examine how the media defined the problem, diagnosa causes, makes moral judgments, and treatment recommendation to the MBG food poisoning cases. The approach used is descriptive qualitative with text analysis techniques on ten news articles, consisting of five CNNIndonesia articles and five Kompas articles selected purposively in April 2025. The results of the study show that CNNIndonesia's reporting tends to be neutral by reporting the facts, encouraging readers to be more critical and vigilant about the implementation of the program. In contrast, Kompas itself tends to frame the MBG program as a fundamentally good state policy, but one that is facing challenges in its implementation. These findings confirm that the media not only conveys facts, but also shapes social meaning and the direction of public understanding.
