Abstract

This Field Work Practice (PKL) was carried out at PT Petrokimia Gresik, Production Department III B, with a focus on the Sulfuric Acid Production unit. The specific task carried out is the analysis and evaluation of the performance of Heat Exchanger E-1302 by comparing design data and actual operating data. Heat exchanger E-1302 plays an important role in the heat exchange process to maintain operating conditions in accordance with the needs of the sulfuric acid production process. Performance analysis is carried out by evaluating the main parameters, including heat transfer rate, overall heat transfer coefficient (U), heat exchanger effectiveness, and pressure drop on the hot and cold fluid sides. Actual data were obtained from direct field observations and daily operating data, then compared with available design specifications. The calculation method is based on the principle of heat balance and heat transfer theory. The evaluation results show that there is a difference between the actual performance and the design performance of heat exchanger E-1302 which is influenced by operating conditions, fouling, and changes in fluid flow rate and temperature. In general, the E-1302 heat exchanger can still operate properly, but attention to performance degradation is needed to maintain the efficiency and reliability of the unit. This analysis is expected to be an evaluation and consideration in efforts to optimize the operation and maintenance of heat exchangers in the Sulfuric Acid Production unit.
