Abstract
Soil salinity causes a decrease in nutrient availability and inhibits plant growth. Red amaranth is a salinity-tolerant plant; however, at certain salinity levels, amaranth growth experiences significant decline. This study aims to examine the effect of microbial-immobilized biochar in improving the chemical properties of saline-stressed soil and enhancing red amaranth growth. The research was conducted in the greenhouse of the Faculty of Agriculture, UPN "Veteran" East Java, using a factorial Completely Randomized Design with two factors: microbialimmobilized biochar dosage (0, 15, 30, and 45 tons.ha⁻¹) and NaCl salinity stress (0, 4, 6, and 8 mS.cm⁻¹), replicated 3 times, resulting in 48 experimental units. The results showed that microbial-immobilized biochar application at a dosage of 45 tons.ha⁻¹ (B3) was less effective in improving chemical properties; however, for the available phosphorus parameter, biochar dosage of 45 tons.ha⁻¹ (B3) showed the best results with a value of 91.40 ppm at 42 DAP (days after planting). Microbial-immobilized biochar dosage of 15 tons.ha⁻¹ (B1) was the best dosage for improving most soil chemical property parameters. Application of microbial immobilized biochar at B3 dosage (45 tons.ha⁻¹) on soil with low salinity (N1) provided the best red amaranth growth results.
