Abstract

The Field Work Practice activity aims to provide a direct understanding of the chemical industry process. This Field Work Practice (PKL) is carried out at PT. Petrokimia Gresik, Production Department IIB, specifically at the Phonska IV Unit, during the period from September 1, 2024 to December 31, 2024. This Field Work Practice activity aims to provide direct understanding of the NPK Phonska fertilizer production process, the operation of main and supporting equipment, as well as the application of occupational safety and health (K3) aspects, utilities, and waste management in the chemical industry environment. The methods used in the implementation of the PKL include field observation, literature study, discussions with field supervisors, and collection of technical data from related units. The description of the production process covers the stages of raw material preparation, pre-neutralizer process, granulation, drying, cooling, filtering, to product coating. In addition, discussions were held on the specifications of the main equipment, utility systems, quality control laboratories, and liquid, solid, and gas waste treatment systems. In special assignments, mass balance and heat balance analyses were performed on certain equipment, such as rotary dryers and pre-neutralizer tanks, to evaluate process performance. The mass balance for the rotary dryer with an input and output mass of 305,155.376 kg/hour and the heat balance for the rotary dryer with an input and output heat of 33,512,427.71 kJ/hour.
