Abstract
Spodoptera frugiperda (J.E. Smith) is a major invasive pest of corn crops that causes significant yield losses, especially in agroecosystems with diverse topography. This study aims to analyze the population density and spatial distribution patterns of S. frugiperda in corn plantations in the hilly area of Tanggunggunung Subdistrict, Tulungagung Regency, and to examine its relationship with environmental factors. The study was conducted in two locations, namely Ngrejo Village and Jengglungharjo Village, using a two-dimensional sampling method on corn plants aged 15–45 days after planting. Population density was analyzed descriptively and quantitatively, while the distribution pattern was determined using the Morisita Index and geostatistical analysis through variogram modeling and kriging interpolation. The results showed that S. frugiperda was found naturally in both locations with different population densities. The population distribution pattern in Ngrejo Village tended to be random, while in Jengglungharjo Village it showed a clustered pattern. Environmental factors, particularly temperature and humidity, showed a relationship with fluctuations in the S. frugiperda population. Spatial distribution maps were able to identify points of pest concentration in the observation area. This information is important as a basis for developing more effective and efficient location-based integrated pest management strategies. Keywords: Spodoptera frugiperda, population density, spatial distribution pattern, Morisita Index, corn
