Abstract
This study aims to analyze the working mechanism of farmer groups on coffee production and to identify the factors of farmer group roles that influence the increase of coffee production in Puspo Village, Puspo District, Pasuruan Regency. The research employed a descriptive quantitative method with Structural Equation Modeling–Partial Least Squares (SEM–PLS) as the analytical technique. The respondents consisted of 75 coffee farmers who were members of local farmer groups. The results indicate that the working mechanism of farmer groups in Puspo Village is implemented through four main roles: as a learning class, a cooperation forum, a production unit, and a facilitator for technology and information dissemination. The role of the farmer group as a learning class includes conducting training, agricultural extension, and improving farmers’ skills in farming. As a cooperation forum, the farmer group functions to assist farmers, build and maintain shared facilities, make joint decisions, and establish partnerships with external parties. Meanwhile, its role as a production unit involves joint decisionmaking, activity evaluation, and production administration management. Furthermore, the analysis results show that all roles of the farmer group have a positive and significant effect on increasing coffee production, with the cooperation forum role having the strongest influence (coefficient = 0,329), while the learning class role has the weakest influence (coefficient = 0,081). This finding proves that the existence of farmer groups plays an essential role in enhancing the efficiency, productivity, and independence of coffee farmers in Puspo Village.
