Abstract
Methyl methacrylate uses isobutanol as the raw material obtained from PT. Petro Oxo Nusantara. Methyl methacrylate products can be used as raw materials for producing polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), a material for coatings, resins, adhesives, paints, and medical devices such as surgical cements and dental prostheses. Methyl methacrylate can be produced using several processes, including the Acetone Cyanohydrin (ACH) process, Methyl Methacrylate from Isobutylene, Methyl Methacrylate from Ethylene, and Isobutanol Decomposition. The Methyl Methacrylate production process uses the Isobutanol Decomposition process, which begins by converting the isobutanol to the gas phase and decomposing the isobutanol in a reactor with a conversion of 98.97% to produce isobutylene gas. The isobutylene gas is then oxidized in the reactor with a conversion of 72.7% to produce methacrolein gas. Methacrolein gas will be converted into liquid phase to be fed into the esterification reactor with 70% conversion to obtain Methyl Methacrylate product.
