Abstract

PPSDM Migas Cepu is one of the crude oil processing facilities operated by Pertamina's upstream regional 4 subholding zone 11 Cepu field. Crude oil processing involves equipment and operating units, one of which is a heat exchanger. A heat exchanger is a device used to transfer heat from one fluid to another. HE-01 is one of five heat exchanger units owned by the PPSDM Migas refinery unit. HE-01 functions as a preheater for crude oil that is placed in the tube before entering the furnace. Heat transfer in HE-01 can occur due to the temperature difference between fluids. However, in actual conditions, the amount of heat released by diesel and the heat received by crude oil are not equal. Therefore, this study was conducted to analyze the performance of HE-01 and determine whether its condition is still optimal for operation. In this study, observations were made using a quantitative approach through heat transfer efficiency calculations. The results of the calculations in this study show that the HE-01 device has a heat transfer efficiency value of 76.054% with heat released by the hot fluid of 222,892.9 btu/hour, while the heat absorbed by the cold fluid is 169,519.29 btu/hour, with a dirt factor (rd) value of 0.006, and a pressure drop of 0.00095 psi. Based on these parameters, HE-01 is still quite suitable for use. However, the efficiency of the device's performance is not optimal.
