Abstract
The Pre-Design of the Nitric Acid Plant with a production capacity of 80,000 tons per year is planned to be established in Bungah District, Gresik Regency, East Java, operating continuously for 330 days a year. The plant will utilize the Ostwald Process or oxidation process, using Ammonia (99.5%) and Air as the main raw materials. The initial stage of the process involves the reaction of Ammonia with oxygen from the air in a Fixed Bed Multitube reactor under conditions of 8 atm pressure and $750^{\circ}C$ to produce Nitrogen Monoxide (NO) and water. The NO gas is then cooled to $38^{\circ}C$ and further oxidized into Nitrogen Dioxide ($NO_2$). Subsequently, $NO_2$ is absorbed by process water in an absorber to form Nitric Acid. To achieve a final product purity of 68%, the plant includes a bleaching process using air. The produced Nitric Acid plays a crucial role, primarily (around 80%) as a raw material in the manufacturing of Ammonium Nitrate for the nitrogen fertilizer industry, and is also important in the explosives industry and metal treatment. Based on the economic analysis, the plant is declared feasible to be established, with a Total Capital Investment (TCI) of Rp. 1,019,975,076,173, a Return on Investment (ROI) After Tax of 24.6%, a Payback Period (PBP) of 3 years and 7 months, an Internal Rate of Return (IRR) of 19.89%, and a Break-Even Point (BEP) of 33.04%, and supported by 188 employees
