Abstract
The Methanol Plant from Carbon Dioxide Hydrogenation with Hydrogen using the ICI (Imperial Chemical Industries) Process, with a capacity of 120,000 tons per year, will be established in the Jababeka II Industrial Estate, Cikarang, Bekasi Regency, West Java. The plant is designed to operate 24 hours per day and 330 days per year, using carbon dioxide (CO₂) and hydrogen (H₂) as the main raw materials. Methanol (CH₃OH) is a versatile chemical widely used in the formaldehyde, resin, and wood adhesive industries, as well as in biodiesel production, chemical solvents, alternative fuels, and various other chemical synthesis processes. In addition, methanol plays an important role as a raw material in the energy and petrochemical industries due to its reactive nature, biodegradability, and more environmentally friendly characteristics compared to fossil fuels. The increasing domestic demand for methanol and the limited national production capacity make the establishment of this plant essential to meet industrial needs while reducing import dependency.
