Abstract

Soil physical quality plays a crucial role in determining land capability to support plant growth and sustain agricultural productivity. Varians in land use in Tutur Subdistrict, Pasuruan Regency, may lead to differences in soil physical conditions, requiring quantitative evaluation. This study aimed to assess the Soil Physical Quality Index (SPQI) across several land-use types, identify the key indicators determining soil physical quality, and analyze the influence of land use on SPQI values. Laboratory analyses included bulk density, texture, soil moisture, permeability, porosity, aggregate stability, and effective depth. Key indicators were determined using Principal Component Analysis (PCA), while SPQI values were calculated through a weighting system based on soil functions. The results showed that protected forest land had the highest SPQI value, whereas dryland had the lowest. Bulk density was identified as the most influential indicator affecting soil physical quality. These findings indicate that land-use variation significantly influences soil physical quality and can serve as a basis for sustainable land management planning in Tutur Subdistrict. Keywords: soil physical quality, SPQI, PCA, land use, Tutur Subdistrict
