Abstract

This internship report presents the results of a one-month Practical Work Program conducted at PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk., Tuban Plant, within the Physical Material Quality Assurance Section. The internship activities provided direct exposure to the cement manufacturing process, which consists of raw material preparation, raw mill processing, clinker production in the rotary kiln, finish grinding, and cement packaging. Supporting units such as utilities, quality assurance, emission control, and laboratory operations were also observed. The primary special task carried out during the internship was the analysis of the correlation between moisture and ash content on the calorific value of coal used as the main fuel in the kiln. Experimental laboratory data were processed to determine the strength and direction of these correlations. The results show that both moisture content and ash content exhibit a strong negative correlation with calorific value, indicating that higher moisture and ash levels reduce coal heating efficiency, thereby affecting kiln performance and overall energy utilization. This finding reinforces the importance of maintaining coal quality specifications to ensure stable combustion and optimal clinker formation. Overall, the internship provided valuable technical insight into cement production operations, laboratory testing procedures according to SNI standards, and the role of quality assurance in supporting efficient and sustainable industrial processes at PT Semen Indonesia.
