Abstract
This internship was conducted at PT Semen Gresik, Rembang Plant from November 1 to November 30, 2024, within the Production Section. The program aimed to provide practical understanding of the cement manufacturing process using the dry process system, which includes raw material preparation, grinding, preheating, clinker formation in the rotary kiln, cooling, and final grinding to produce Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) and Portland Composite Cement (PCC). Observations were carried out on the main raw materials—limestone, clay, silica sand, and gypsum—as well as major production equipment such as the Raw Mill, Suspension Preheater, Rotary Kiln, Clinker Cooler, and Finish Mill. Additional studies covered utility systems, quality control procedures in the laboratory, occupational health and safety (OHS), and the plant’s waste treatment systems. A special assignment was conducted involving mass and heat balance analysis on the rotary kiln to evaluate the efficiency of the clinker formation process. This internship provided comprehensive insights into modern cement production operations and strengthened the application of chemical engineering principles in an industrial setting.
