Abstract
The Bangsal sub-watershed is a downstream area of the Brantas watershed that experiences high ecological pressure, characterized by poor vegetation cover, high erosion and sediment load, and frequent flooding. These conditions indicate soil degradation, which has an impact on soil fertility. This study was conducted to analyze the potential soil fertility in various land uses by considering the status of soil degradation in the Bangsal Sub-watershed. The research method used a physiographic survey with purposive sampling at five types of land use, namely forest, plantation, dry field, rice field, and shrubbery. Soil samples were analyzed in the laboratory to measure physical, chemical, and biological parameters. The analysis data were then processed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) and the Honest Significant Difference (HSD) test to determine the differences between land uses, followed by correlation and regression analysis to see the relationship between variables and a pivot table to see the data distribution. The results of the study show that the status of soil degradation is generally classified as moderately degraded, with one plot of land classified as severely degraded. The main limiting factors are porosity, redox, bulk density, and surface rockiness. The status of soil fertility varies from low to high, with limiting factors being base saturation, organic C content, and potassium availability. Efforts to increase land productivity can be made by improving these limiting factors so that the physical and chemical properties of the soil are improved, microbial activity is maintained, and fertility potential can be sustained. Keywords: soil damage, soil fertility, land use, Bangsal Sub-watershed
