Abstract

This study evaluates the effect of adding n-butanol (oxygenated additive) and BHT (antioxidant stabilizer) to B40 and B100 biodiesel on diesel engine performance and exhaust emissions. Experiments were conducted on a singlecylinder Kubota RD 65 DI-NB diesel engine at a constant 1,500 rpm under 1 kW and 4 kW electrical loads. Air supply was controlled by varying blower opening from 0% to 100%. Performance metrics included brake power, brake thermal efficiency (BTE), and specific fuel consumption. Emission parameters included carbon monoxide (CO), unburned hydrocarbons (HC), and smoke opacity. Results show that biodiesel blends containing n-butanol and BHT, combined with adequate air supply, can increase brake power and thermal efficiency while reducing specific fuel consumption. CO, HC, and smoke opacity generally decreased at higher load (4 kW) with moderate blower opening. These findings indicate that additiveenriched biodiesel is a cleaner and technically feasible alternative to support a sustainable energy transition in diesel applications. Keywords: biodiesel, B40, B100, n-butanol, BHT, emissions, performance.
