Abstract
This internship report was conducted at PT Petrokimia Gresik, Production Department IIB, to analyze the mass and heat balance of the rotary dryer and prescrubber units in the NPK fertilizer production process. The objective of this study was to evaluate the performance and thermal efficiency of these units to support energy optimization and process stability. Based on the calculations, the total mass flow entering and leaving the rotary dryer was 305,155.376 kg/h. The total heat input and output were 33,512,427.71 kJ/h, resulting in a thermal efficiency of 88.55% and a heat loss of 11.44%. For the prescrubber unit, the total mass and heat balance indicated that the system released 20,230.0608 kcal/h of heat loss. From the analysis, it can be concluded that both the rotary dryer and prescrubber systems operated efficiently, though further optimization in operational parameters such as pressure, temperature, and gas flow rate is recommended to minimize heat loss. Routine evaluations, thermal insulation improvements, and preventive maintenance are also advised to enhance process performance and energy conservation.
