Abstract

Guanidine nitrate (CH₅N₃·HNO₃) is a chemical compound widely used in various industries such as dyes, pesticides, disinfectants, and propellants. The demand for guanidine nitrate in Indonesia continues to increase, while there is currently no domestic production, resulting in complete reliance on imports. Therefore, a plant for guanidine nitrate production from urea and ammonium nitrate with a capacity of 65,000 tons per year is proposed. The process involves the reaction between urea and ammonium nitrate using silicon dioxide as a catalyst at 195°C and 1 atm pressure. The reaction proceeds endothermically with a conversion rate of 90% and product purity of 97–98%. The production process consists of three main stages: raw material preparation, reaction, and product purification through crystallization. The plant is planned to be located in the Kujang Industrial Area, Cikampek, Karawang Regency, West Java, due to its proximity to major raw material suppliers, transportation facilities, labor availability, and supporting infrastructure. The establishment of this plant is expected to reduce the dependence on imported guanidine nitrate, enhance the added value of domestic raw materials, and promote the growth of Indonesia’s chemical industry sector.
