Abstract

The petroleum processing at the Human Resources Development Center for Oil and Gas (PPSDM Migas) is carried out using an atmospheric distillation unit. The purpose of processing with atmospheric distillation is to separate crude oil into various product fractions, namely Pertasol CA, Pertasol CB, Pertasol CC, diesel oil, and residue. The products are obtained through several stages, including heating, vaporization and separation, condensation and cooling, as well as final separation. One of the main pieces of equipment used in the heating process is the furnace, which functions to raise the temperature of the crude oil before it enters the evaporator. At PPSDM Migas Cepu, there are two furnaces in operation — Furnace-02 and Furnace-03. The production process of Pertasol and diesel fuel at the PPSDM Cepu refinery runs continuously, so the refinery unit operates 24 hours a day. This continuous operation can affect furnace performance, making efficiency evaluation necessary to assess its performance. This study aims to determine the performance of Furnace-02 in the PPSDM Migas Cepu refinery unit based on several parameters. The performance evaluation method of Furnace-02 was carried out by collecting and processing field data as well as data from the literature. Based on the calculation results, the total heat input to Furnace-02 was 7,501,974,349 BTU/hour, while the heat output was 1,355,568,942 BTU/hour. The efficiency of Furnace-02 was calculated to be 81.93%, indicating that the furnace still operates optimally, as a furnace is considered efficient if it has an efficiency greater than 70%. Therefore, it can be concluded that Furnace-02 is still capable of operating properly, provided that regular maintenance is carried out to maintain its performance and ensure continuous optimal operation.
