Abstract
The evaluation of soil degradation status for biomass production is critical in determining the extent of degradation and limiting variables in areas with high land-use dynamics. This study was carried out in Ngantang District, Malang Regency, which has seen significant land- use changes that may have reduced soil quality. A descriptive-explorative approach was used in the study, which included field surveys and laboratory analysis. Soil samples were taken from five different land-use types: paddy fields, dry fields, plantations, shrubs, and woods. The characteristics measured were solum thickness, surface rock, sand fraction, bulk density, porosity, permeability, pH, EC, redox potential, and soil microbial population, all in compliance with Indonesian Ministry of Environment Regulation No. 07 of 2006. Soil degradation status was measured by comparing it to crucial thresholds and calculating relative frequency scores.
