Abstract
Hexamthylenetetramine (HMTA), also known as hexamine, is an important chemical widely used in the production of phenolic resins, explosives, pharmaceuticals, and as a curing agent in the polymer industry. The increasing demand for HMTA in both domestic and international markets highlights the need for new production facilities. This study presents a preliminary design for an HMTA plant using ammonia and formalin as raw materials through a condensation reaction process. The design considers material and energy balances, equipment specifications, and process conditions to ensure optimal conversion and product quality. Key aspects such as process safety, utility requirements, and environmental impact are also evaluated. The outcome of this preliminary design is expected to provide a technical and economic basis for further development and feasibility analysis of HMTA production on an industrial scale.
