Abstract
ZnO nanoparticles can be synthesized through a biosynthesis method using corn plant leaf extract (Zea mays L.) as a bioreducer. This research aims to examine the effect of variations in Zinc Nitrate Hexahydrate precursor concentration and calcination temperature on the yield, as well as to characterize the resulting ZnO nanoparticles. Corn leaves were extracted to obtain flavonoid compounds, and the resulting extract was then mixed with the precursor solution and calcined to form ZnO nanoparticles. The highest yield, 22.6082%, was obtained from the sample with a precursor concentration of 0.1 M and a calcination temperature of 300˚C. SEM-EDX analysis of the sample with a precursor concentration of 0.3 M and a calcination temperature of 700˚C revealed various particle morphologies, with the composition consisting of 76.43% Zn and 23.57% O by atomic weight. XRD analysis of the sample with a 0.3 M precursor concentration showed that at a calcination temperature of 300˚C, the product was not pure ZnO, while at 700˚C, pure ZnO was obtained with a composition of 80.3% Zn and 19.7% O by atomic weight. The crystal diameter obtained from XRD analysis of samples with a 0.3 M precursor concentration at calcination temperatures of 300˚C and 700˚C were 40.8564 nm and 31.7203 nm, respectively. Both samples exhibited the same crystal system, namely hexagonal zincite.
