Abstract
Dependence on fossil energy drives the development of more environmentally friendly alternative energy sources, such as fuel-grade ethanol (FGE), which can be used as a fuel blend component. Bioethanol production in Indonesia still faces challenges in achieving the required purity level for FGE. One promising purification method is adsorptive distillation using molecular sieve 3A. This study aims to increase the ethanol content of bioethanol through variations in adsorptive distillation time (35, 70, 105, 140, 175 minutes) and molecular sieve mass (10, 20, 30, 40, 50 grams) in the distillation column. The primary focus of this research is to reduce the water content in bioethanol that complies with fuel blending standards. The adsorptive distillation process was carried out at a heating temperature of 80 °C using an initial bioethanol concentration of 96.729%. The results show that using 50 grams of molecular sieve 3A for 105 minutes produced ethanol with a concentration of 99.15% and a water content of 0,85%. This value meets the SNI 7390-2008 standard, indicating that the resulting bioethanol is suitable and safe to use as an environmentally friendly and sustainable alternative fuel blend.
