Abstract

Heat exchangers are widely applied in industrial processes to transfer heat between fluids of different temperatures, either directly or indirectly. Due to their efficiency, low maintenance, and operational simplicity, they are commonly used for heating and cooling applications. In the Crude Distillation Unit (CDU) at PPSDM Migas Cepu, a vertical shell-and-tube cooler is employed to reduce the temperature of processed products. The effectiveness of heat transfer largely depends on the fluid flow rate, ensuring that the heat released by the hot stream equals the heat absorbed by the cold stream, which determines the overall heat transfer rate.
