Abstract

The Industrial Internship (PKL) was carried out at PT Petrokimia Gresik in the IA Production Department with the aim of gaining direct insight into fertilizer production processes as well as the application of chemical engineering knowledge in industry. The activities included observation of the urea, ammonia, and ZA production units, along with supporting units such as utilities, laboratories, and waste treatment facilities. In addition, the students studied the implementation of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS), which plays a vital role in ensuring smooth plant operations. The special assignment focused on analyzing the performance of the reactor and stripper in the urea production process. The results showed that the average N/C ratio of 3.9 was close to the optimal condition, indicating an excess of ammonia, while the H/C ratio tended to approach the maximum limit. The evaluation of the stripper demonstrated good ammonia separation efficiency, although in certain periods there were deviations below the urea threshold. Overall, this internship provided valuable experience regarding large-scale chemical plant operations, enhanced knowledge of process optimization, OHS practices, and the integration of theory with industrial practice.
