Abstract
Income inequality remains a major development challenge in the Province of the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY). This study aims to analyze the effect of economic growth, investment, and average years of schooling on income inequality in DIY during the period 2015–2024. The data employed are panel data at the district/municipality level, analyzed using multiple regression with a Random Effect Model. The results show that economic growth has a negative but insignificant effect on inequality. Investment has a negative and significant effect, meaning that increased investment helps reduce inequality, although the impact is relatively small. Meanwhile, average years of schooling has a positive and significant effect, indicating that improvements in education are associated with rising inequality, as access to quality education remains concentrated in urban areas. In conclusion, investment plays a role in reducing inequality, while economic growth has not been sufficiently effective, and education tends to widen disparities when not evenly distributed. Therefore, policies for equalizing investment, access to education, and inclusive development are needed so that the benefits of development can be felt by all districts/cities in DIY. Keywords: Income Inequality, Economic Growth, Investment, Average Years of Schooling,
