Abstract
PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional RU IV Cilacap, a state-owned energy company with a production capacity of 348 MBSD, relies on critical equipment such as the shell and tube heat exchanger 82E-201. This exchanger facilitates heat transfer between fluids in crude oil processing, playing a key role in heating and cooling operations. Over time, fouling buildup reduces thermal efficiency, lowering heat transfer rates and increasing energy consumption. To assess performance, calculations are performed, including mass balance, LMTD (Log Mean Temperature Difference), convective heat transfer coefficients, Reynolds number, and dirt factor analysis. These evaluations help determine the extent of fouling and guide cleaning schedules during plant shutdowns to restore optimal efficiency. By maintaining the heat exchanger’s performance, the company ensures energy efficiency and operational reliability in crude oil processing.
