Abstract

THE INFLUENCE OF BASE SECTOR GRDP ON LABOR ABSORPTION IN SURABAYA CITY ABSTRACT Melinda Reta Erlysiana Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Jawa Timur The government and society play an essential role in optimizing local potential to promote regional growth and welfare. This study aims to identify the base sectors within the Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) of Surabaya City during the period 2015–2024 and to analyze their influence on labor absorption. A descriptive approach is employed, utilizing multiple linear regression analysis based on the assumptions of Location Quotient (LQ) and Best Linear Unbiased Estimate (BLUE). Data were obtained from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) and analyzed for the 2015–2024 period. The results show that there are eight base sectors in Surabaya City: Water Supply, Waste Management, Waste and Recycling; Wholesale and Retail Trade and Repair of Motor Vehicles and Motorcycles; Transportation and Warehousing; Accommodation and Food Service Activities; Information and Communication; Financial and Insurance Activities; Real Estate; and Business Services. Regression analysis indicates that all base sectors significantly influence labor absorption, except for the Financial and Insurance Activities sector. Keywords: GRDP, Base Sector, Labor Absorption, Location Quotient (LQ)
