Abstract

The cracker industry, especially shrimp crackers, is an industry that has the potential to produce waste and cause environmental pollution, especially the aquatic environment around the industry. Shrimp cracker waste has high levels of COD and BOD, so if the waste is directly discharged into the environment without prior treatment, it will cause many problems for the environment such as disruption of the surrounding river ecosystem. This study aims to reduce COD, BOD and neutralize pH levels and determine the effect of waste inflow rate and microbial recycle rate on the treatment of shrimp cracker industry waste using contact stabilization technology. The shrimp cracker waste treatment process using contact stabilization technology uses two operating conditions that are varied, namely the inlet waste flow rate of 8 L / h; 10 L / h; 12 L / h; 16 L / h; 24 L / h and the microbial recycle rate which is varied by 4 L / h; 5 L / h; 6 L / h; 8 L / h; 12 L / h. This study aims to reduce COD, BOD and neutralize pH and determine the effect of the microbial recycle rate on the treatment of shrimp cracker industrial waste using contact stabilization technology. The decrease in COD and BOD levels is most optimal at an inlet waste flow rate of 8 L/hour and a microbial recycle flow rate of 12 L/hour with a decrease in COD levels of 94.10% and a decrease in BOD of 95.48%. This shows that the flow rate of incoming water is inversely proportional to the decrease in COD and BOD levels, namely the smaller the flow rate of incoming waste, the greater the decrease in COD and BOD levels. Meanwhile, the relationship between microbial recycle flow rate is directly proportional to COD and BOD levels, namely the greater the microbial recycle flow rate, the greater the decrease in COD and BOD levels.
