Abstract

PT Petrokimia Gresik is one of the fertilizer producers in Indonesia which is a subsidiary of BUMN, PT Pupuk Indonesia. PT Petrokimia Gresik has 3 factories, namely Production I, II, and III. Production II is divided into two, namely Production Compartment IIA and Production Compartment IIB. Production Compartment II-B is part of the factory compartment II. Production IIB consists of Phonska IV, NPK Granulation II, III, and IV and ZK production units. Phonska IV fertilizer (15:15:15) is one of the NPK fertilizer products on the market that contains 15% Nitrogen (N), 15% Phosphorus (P2O5), 15% Potassium (K2O), 10% Sulfur (S), and a maximum moisture content of 3%. This fertilizer is a solid, granular form that has a grain size of 70% US Mesh -4+10. This compound fertilizer is almost entirely soluble in water, so that the nutrients it contains can be absorbed and used by plants effectively. The application of phonska fertilizer on rice plants has a very significant effect on vegetative growth (plant height and number of rice per clump) and generative (number of panicles and production). The process of making NPK Phonska IV fertilizer broadly consists of several process stages, namely raw material preparation, slurry preparation, granulation process, drying, screening, cooling, and coating. The main tools used in the process of making phonska IV fertilizer are pre-neutralizer and granulator. In the PreNeutralizer, two reactions occur, namely the reaction between ammonia and sulfuric acid to form ammonium sulfate (ZA) and the reaction between ammonia and phosphoric acid to form monoammonium phosphate (MAP). The reaction that occurs is a neutralization reaction and is exothermic. In the granulator, further reactions occur, namely the reaction between ammonia and sulfuric acid to form ammonium sulfate (ZA) and the reaction between ammonia and monoammonium phosphate (MAP) to form diammonium phosphate (DAP). Phonska IV fertilizer products are coated because the hygroscopic nature of the raw materials can accelerate the caking process, especially if there are variations in air temperature and moisture content. Coating agent is made of sillica powder or dolomite and coating oil, to increase anticaking properties, one of the coating agents is added with a termination compound so that it can provide extra resistance to water absorption. In this coating, the addition of coating agent aims to increase the Critical Relative Humidity (CRH) value of the product to be equal to the CRH of the environment, so that the resulting product has less hygroscopic properties.
