Abstract
Cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.) offers a wide range of benefits, functioning not only as a food source but also in pharmaceutical and cosmetic applications. It possesses considerable nutritional value, particularly as a source of essential minerals and vitamins. However, the availability of arable land for cultivation is increasingly constrained due to land-use conversion for residential and industrial development. Consequently, the use of polybags as containers for growing media has emerged as a practical solution for limited- space cultivation. Nonetheless, the selection and composition of the growing medium remain a critical factor in the success of vegetable cultivation in polybags. The application of NPK fertilizer at appropriate proportions and dosages is essential to promote optimal growth and yield in cucumber plants. This study was conducted using a factorial Completely Randomized Design (CRD). The first factor consisted of 4 levels of growing media composition : soil without any amandements (M1), a mixture of 2 parts soil, 1 part cow manure, and 1 part rice husk charcoal (M2), 1 part soil, 2 parts cow manure, and 1 part rice husk charcoal (M3), and 1 part soil, 1 part cow manure, and 2 parts rice husk charcoal (M4). The second factor was the dosage of NPK fertilizer (N), applied at 4 levels of (N1) 400 kg/ha, (N2) 600 kg/ha, (N3) 800 kg/ha, and 1000 kg/ha. The results revealed a statistically significant interaction between the composition of the growing medium and the NPK fertilizer dosage with respect to plant height, number of fruits per plant, and total fruit weight per plant at harvest. Keywords : Cucumber, growing media compositions, NPK fertilizer dosage
