Abstract

PT XYZ is a company engaged in the production and distribution of industrial gases, including liquid gas products delivered via tank trucks. In the distribution process, inefficiencies were identified, particularly in the form of wasteful activities that caused delays and reduced operational performance. This research aims to identify the types and causes of waste in the distribution system and propose improvements using the Lean Distribution approach. The research stages include mapping the Current Stream to identify non-value-added (NVA) activities, classifying waste using Process Activity Mapping (PAM), prioritizing critical waste with questionnaire-based weighting, and analyzing root causes using Fishbone Diagram and the 5M1E method. The results show that the most dominant type of waste is waiting, contributing 22% to the overall inefficiencies, followed by excess motion, defects, and overprocessing. Improvements are proposed to eliminate or reduce these wastes, such as simplifying document handling, optimizing truck loading and inspection processes, and utilizing digital systems. Implementation of the proposed improvements resulted in a decrease in total distribution lead time from 1,270 minutes to 1,085 minutes, an efficiency gain of approximately 14.6%. These findings demonstrate that Lean Distribution effectively enhances the efficiency and reliability of liquid gas delivery operations, thereby supporting the company’s service performance and competitiveness.
