Abstract
Semanggi Suroboyo, a traditional dish native to Surabaya, is facing marginalization due to modernization and lack of preservation efforts, particularly among the younger generation. The lack of information and promotion has led to the fading of its cultural significance, prompting the need for preservation through engaging media, such as documentary videos that can visually and emotionally convey its cultural value. The short documentary project, “Semanggi Suroboyo”, involves the author as both researcher and director, overseeing the entire process from data collection and analysis to video production. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, the project follows three key stages: pre-production, production, and post-production, which include field research, scriptwriting, filming, interviews, and editing to create a compelling visual narrative. This documentary aims to preserve and introduce semanggi as an important culinary heritage that is at risk of being forgotten. Featuring vendors, buyers, and residents of Kampung Semanggi as main sources, the video explores the process of preparing semanggi, the challenges it faces, and innovative efforts to preserve it. The video will be distributed through platforms like YouTube and Instagram to reach a wider audience, reigniting public interest in Semanggi Suroboyo. Ultimately, this documentary serves as an effort to preserve and promote traditional cuisine that is increasingly being overshadowed by modern trends. By presenting historical, cultural, and social information about Semanggi Suroboyo in an accessible and engaging format, the video aims to enhance public appreciation for Surabaya's local culinary heritage.
