Abstract
The Malacca Strait is one of the busiest shipping lanes in the world as it is the main link between the Indian Ocean and the Pacific Ocean. The large number of ships passing through each year makes the strait a chokepoint, causing traffic jams that pose a threat to navigation. As technology develops and navigation in the Malacca Strait becomes more complex, the need for accurate hydrographic data becomes more urgent. Three representatives from coastal countries, namely Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore agreed to form a collaboration in order to contribute in developing a safer and more accurate navigation system. The author uses a descriptive qualitative analysis method using the theory of trilateral cooperation which is a form of cooperation involving three countries or parties based on interests and hydrographic cooperation which emphasizes the importance of collaboration between countries in the field of hydrography used to support navigation safety through cooperation indicators, regional commissions and joint surveys. Indonesia with Malaysia and Singapore have made various efforts until the implementation of cooperation carried out in the three forms of indicators, with the holding of cooperation forums such as TTEG, then the role of regional commissions such as EAHC and ASEAN-JAIF which serve as facilitators and funding for joint surveys, namely the Joint Hydrographic Survey which produces sustainable maritime solutions. Keywords: hydrographic cooperation, navigation, shipping safety.
