Abstract

Land capability is an effort to utilize land according to its potential. Land capacity analysis is carried out as a step to utilize land resources according to their capabilities. Assessment of land capacity is very important, especially to formulate policies for sustainable land use and management. This study was conducted to analyze the land capacity in the Lambosir Hill area, Mount Ciremai National Park, Kuningan Regency, West Java. Lambosir Hill, which has an altitude of 800–1200 meters above sea level, is an area with a varied topography and consists of jungle forests and shrubs. The results show that the Lambosir Hill area has three classes of land capabilities: class III (15.95%), class IV (67.99%), and class VIII (16.05%). The main limiting factors that affect the land capability class include slope slope, erosion sensitivity, and soil permeability. Lands with classes III and IV have limited potential for management, such as planting annual crops, but require intensive conservation measures, including terrace systems and the addition of organic matter. On the other hand, class VIII land is recommended to remain in its natural condition for conservation purposes. This study provides important information about the potential of the Lambosir Hill area, despite the restrictions on community activities due to national park policies. Keywords : land capability, Lambosir Hill, key limiting factors
