Abstract
Diphenylamine (DPA) or N-phenylbenzenamine is a chemical that must be imported from abroad to meet domestic needs. This is because Indonesia does not yet have a factory that produces diphenylamine. It is hoped that the establishment of a diphenylamine factory in Indonesia will reduce dependence on imported products, not only diphenylamine products, but other products that also use diphenylamine as a raw material so that it can spur the growth of other downstream industries that are related to or use the diphenylamine product itself and which development targets the opening of new job opportunities can be realized. Diphenylamine is used as a stabilizer for elastomers, nitrocellulose, nitroglycerin and as a dye intermediate. Apart from that, diphenylamine is also used as an additive in propellants to increase shelf life by neutralizing the acid products formed from the decomposition of nitrocellulose. According to UN Comtrade (2024), total domestic imports of diphenylamine commodities in 2024 will be 46,337 tons per year. The need for diphenylamine in Indonesia is predicted to continue to increase in line with increasing human needs and the growth of downstream industries in Indonesia which require diphenylamine as a raw material. Planning to establish a diphenylamine factory with a capacity of 50,000 tons/year can help meet domestic needs.
