Abstract

Humans tend to prefer pleasurable experiences over those that are distressing or problematic. When this tendency is not well-regulated, it can lead to addiction, a chronic and relapsing disorder characterized by the compulsive consumption of substances or engagement in addictive behaviors. This phenomenon is driven by dopamine release triggered when an individual engages in impulsive and enjoyable activities, which over time may transition from impulsive to compulsive behavior, resulting in dependency. Addiction has been proven to have numerous negative impacts on individuals suffering from it, underscoring the urgent need to assist those affected in overcoming their dependencies. Therefore, this research aims to design an application to support individuals with addiction in their recovery journey. The study adopts the Agile methodology as its primary approach due to its iterative, agile, and flexible nature, combined with the design thinking framework to generate innovative solutions for addiction recovery. The testing of the application design in this research demonstrated that the majority of participants found the design relevant and beneficial in addressing addiction issues. The integration of the Agile methodology with the design thinking framework proved effective in supporting application development, as the iterative and flexible nature of these approaches aligns well with the requirements for developing such an application. The resulting application, named ReMotive, is expected to assist many individuals on their journey to recovery from addiction.
