Abstract

This study aims to explore the potential of eco-enzyme as an environmentally friendly solution with dual functions: as a coagulant in wastewater treatment and as a liquid organic fertilizer to support sustainable agriculture. Eco-enzyme, derived from the fermentation of organic waste such as fruit peels and brown sugar, possesses multifunctional properties that reduce negative environmental impacts. As a coagulant, eco-enzyme was tested to reduce turbidity and Total Suspended Solids (TSS) in wastewater, which, if uncontrolled, can decrease water quality and harm aquatic ecosystems. Additionally, eco-enzyme was tested as a liquid organic fertilizer for turmeric plants (Curcuma longa) to evaluate its efficacy in enhancing soil fertility by increasing nutrient levels such as nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and potassium (K). The results show that eco-enzyme effectively serves as a coagulation agent with high efficiency in lowering TSS and turbidity in wastewater. As an organic fertilizer, eco-enzyme significantly improved soil fertility parameters and supported plant growth. Based on these findings, eco-enzyme presents itself as a promising natural alternative to chemical coagulants and inorganic fertilizers, which often contribute to environmental and health degradation. This study hopes to contribute to sustainable waste management efforts, enrich eco-friendly approaches in water treatment and agriculture, and provide safer, more economical solutions for society. Keywords: eco-enzyme, coagulant, liquid organic fertilizer, turbidity, soil fertility
