Abstract

The problem of well water pollution caused by high levels of dissolved metals in many places has had a serious impact on water quality. This has the potential to be very detrimental to public health and the environment. Therefore, it is very important to find effective solutions to reduce the level of contamination of this pollution. One method that can be used is the use of activated carbon made from organic materials, such as sugarcane bagasse and kepok banana peels. This research aims to analyze the optimum dose and effectiveness of activated carbon produced from these two materials which have been activated using 5% H₃PO₄, in the adsorption process to reduce the parameters of iron (Fe) and manganese (Mn) dissolved in well water. The research was carried out with varying doses of activated carbon of 4 grams, 6 grams, and 8 grams, as well as varying contact times of 20, 30, 40, 50, and 60 minutes. The results of this research show that activated carbon derived from sugar cane bagasse and Kepok banana peel has a good ability to remove the dissolved metal parameters with varying levels of effectiveness. This research shows a sustainable and environmentally friendly alternative solution for water treatment and opens up opportunities to reuse organic waste as active carbon raw material in the process of improving the quality of polluted well water.
