Abstract
Waste treatment is the main challenge in the tofu industry, especially for household scale producers who have limited funds. Constructed Wetland (CW) can be the solution. In a constructed wetland system, there is an interaction between plants, media, and microorganisms. The purpose of this study is to analyze the influence of planting media and plant types in the efficiency of reducing TSS, COD, and BOD parameters in the CW system. The two types of plants are Cyperus Papyrus and Cyperus Rotundus. And another variation is planting media. The planting medium used in this study is silica-gravel sand; Mixture between Biochar and soil; and Combination of sand-soil-gravel biochar mixture. The results show that in the CW system, the planting media used plays a major role in the process of decomposition of organic matter and the reduction of BOD, COD, and TSS parameters. Although there is a decrease in parameters only with the media, the average efficiency of parameter reduction with the use of plants has a greater value. The use of plants has an effect of increasing this efficiency ranging from 20% to 25% across all media. And in the selection of plant types also has an effect as seen from the results of the study, there is a difference in efficiency between plants ranging from 2.5% to 3% in each media, where the crop yield of Cyperus Rotundus is greater in the efficiency of reducing parameters in all media, especially biochar media. Keywords : Constructed Wetland, Silica Sand, Gravels, Biochar, Cyperus Papyrus, Cyperus Rotundus
