Abstract
Alkylbenzene Sulfonate factory with a capacity of 50,000 tons/year will be established in Gerem, Gerogol District, Cilegon City, Banten, West Java. The factory will operate 24 hours a day for 330 days a year. The Alkylbenzene Sulfonate factory uses raw materials in the form of alkylbenzene from PT. Unggul Indah Cahaya in Cilegon and 20% oleum from PT. Industri Asam Indonesia located in Bekasi. Alkylbenzene sulfonate is a raw material for making soap, detergents, and surfactants. The use of Alkylbenzene sulfonate can also be found in industrial cleaners such as dishwashing soap and floor soap. Alkylbenzene sulfonate can be produced by several processes, such as sulfonation with sulfuric acid, sulfonation with sulfur trioxide gas, and sulfonation with 20% oleum. In this factory, Alkylbenzene is processed using the sulfonation method with 20% oleum. Alkylbenzene and 20% oleum are preheated with a heat exchanger to a temperature of 50ºC before being reacted in a CSTR type sulfonation reactor with atmospheric pressure. Then Linear alkylbenzene sulfonate acid is fed to the dilution tank to dilute the sulfuric acid content. Then the formed linear alkylbenzene sulfonate acid is separated between the content of linear alkylbenzene sulfonate acid and sulfuric acid using a decanter. The separated sulfuric acid is collected into a storage tank as a by-product. Alkylbenzene sulfonate acid is then reacted with sodium hydroxide in a neutralization reactor. Then the formed Sodium Linear alkylbenzene sulfonate boils to 50%. Furthermore, it is submitted to a temperature of 30ºC. Sodium Linear alkylbenzene sulfonate with a content of 50% is stored in a product storage tank.
