Abstract
The increasing public demand for plastic products has resulted in the accumulation of plastic waste in accordance with technological and industrial developments. The use of biodegradable is one of his strategies to overcome the problem of aforementioned. Bioplastics are made from natural materials that are degraded by microorganisms, making it more environmentally friendly. Starch is often used as a raw material in the production of bioplastics. Glycerin and chitosan are used as reinforcing substances bioplastics. add 4 grams of starch dissolved in 150 ml of water at 70°C. Weigh chitosan (2.5,3,3.5,4,4.5%) and dissolve with 1% acetic acid until homogeneous. Mix with starch and heat at 60°C. Add glycerol (5,10,15,20,25%) and stir for 1 hour at 60°C, 300 rpm. Pour into molds, dry in a 60°C oven. Remove from mold and dry for 2-3 days at room temperature. Bioplastics have a thickness of about 0.15 mm, a thickness that Exceeding the standard affects water resistance and mechanical properties. Chitosan concentration affects tensile strength, but excessive addition making bioplastics brittle. Glycerol may increase the percentage of elongation, but The excessive composition makes bioplastics sticky and easy to tear. Chitosan can reduce percent biodegradation due to antimicrobials. Excess glycerol can accelerate water absorption. Non-homogeneous mixture of materials affects the surface is less smooth. Bioplastics with the best tensile strength and elongation values and can be applied to a concentration of chitosan 4 gr and a 15 ml glycerol plasticizer. Likewise in thebiodegradation and water absorption tests. Due to the composition is in accordance with SNI 7188.9:2016 where a strong value of Tarik 30.28 elongation value of 80% degrability value of 82.84 on the day 7th and a water absorption value of 1.51% so that the value of hydrophobicity is obtained by 98.5%.
